Cultural life was more and more distinctive which gave way to the creation of the Slovak nation and reanissance in Slovak culture.

  The first half of the 20th century was witness to the First and Second World War. In 1919 Comenius University was founded and a year after that the Slovak National Theatre.

  Bratislava became the capital of the Slovak Republic and the seat of the new national government in 1939.
