It is situated on the right bank of the Danube river. During the reign of the Roman
Emperor Domitianus (81-96 A.D.) there was the Gerulata military station there. In 1203 it was
mentioned as "terra Uruzwar" in a document of the king Andrew II. In the 16th century Croatians
settled there. Among the historical monuments there should be mentioned the Museum of Gerulata,
a Neo-Gothic country house with an English-style park and unique trees in it. Near the park there
is a theatre where S¼UK (the Slovak Folkloristic Ensemble) has its seat.
